Swing Clock hypnotizes guests

Conceptual Gadgets 2 Comments »

swing_clocks_animIf you ever wanted a clock capable of stopping your guests in their tracks, then this is definitely the ticket.  Just seeing the clock out of the corner of my eye while I type is enough to make me just a little bit dizzy.  Sure, it probably won’t put them in a trance, but it’ll at least keep your evenings interesting.  I’d just advise not putting this above the TV or anything else that you tend to look at for long periods though.

This eye catching clock offers quiet and smooth operation and can used anywhere you like.  If you happen to hold some kind of job position with power it’d be fun to put it directly above your head.  Then you can hypnotize all of your employees or at the very least put them in a little bit of a daze.  You can purchase the clock through Think Geek for $19.99.

Lomography Spinner 360°

Conceptual Gadgets 1 Comment »

lomo_spinner_1No one’s really sure what surprises Nikon has in store for its successor to the D90, but if they can make it do what this new Lomography Spinner 360° does, they’ve got at least one guaranteed sale from me. Like with most Lomos the camera’s design is dead simple, and even easier to use, but the results still set it apart from today’s digital alternatives.

The camera swivels on a hand grip extending below it, and also comes with a feature you don’t usually find on a camera: a ripcord. While most panoramic photos cover a 120° perspective from left to right, the LomoSpinner 360° goes all the way around when you yank the cord, producing a panoramic photo that’s 4X longer than a standard landscape portrait. Not sure why that’s cool? Well check out these sample shots below, which I guess are each worth 4,000 words if I’ve done my math correctly.

Departed Steampunk Monkey Skull Frighteningly Cool

Conceptual Gadgets 2 Comments »

skull1
Every so often you come across a piece of artwork that is both cool and disturbing at the same time, and this Steampunk skull definitely qualifies. The artist Lisa Black came up with this piece, which she titled ‘Departed.’ If you’re wondering, Yes! the skull is real. It’s a monkey skull combined with various components that came from watches and other clocks as well. If you’ve been a Walyou reader for awhile now, you’ve likely seen steampunk animals in the past like this steampunk cheetah. A similar concept, really, if a bit more realistic by using actual animal parts via taxidermy than just metal pieces.

skull2

If you’re familiar with Lisa Black’s work, this piece should come as no surprise. She likes to blend natural pieces such as animal parts with the Steampunk world, a strangely unique effect that comes across as fairly realistic. In the past she’s done works like a turtle shell opened up to reveal intricate mechanical pieces, aptly named ‘Fixed Turtle.’ Another work features a baby crocodile with a windup mechanism. All of these are a wonderful combination of the natural and mechanical world, even if they are a bit eerie to look at.

skull3

I’d be curious to see what such a piece would cost (other works of hers have sold in the past, but I’d wager given the intricate detail and work put into these they don’t come cheap), but it does come in it’s very own glass casing, mounted on a metal gear stand. While I think of all Black’s work the mechanical turtle is far and away my favorite, I’d love to see work like this done on a larger scale. Combining taxidermy with steampunk gear work would be particularly cool on say, a grizzly bear. If you were to go a little smaller, I’d wager a steampunk wolverine or wolf would also be pretty impressive. Not something I’d want to run into in the wastelands of the future, that’s for sure. Then again, I’d sign up to ride a bio-mechanical horse or maybe a giant tortoise…although that wouldn’t get me anywhere in a speedy fashion, now would it? Suppose you could build a mechanical beastie of your own, what would you pick?

The New Designer Gas Masks Might Define the Next Level of Fashion

Conceptual Gadgets No Comments »

One definition of fashion says ‘the latest and most admired style in clothes and cosmetics and behavior’. This could be anything from a simple headgear to a range of fashionable footwear. What else could you include in yourfashion accessories? How about a gas mask? Yeah, a gas mask!Gas-Masks-2

With the increase in pollution and the growing number of lung and throat related diseases it would be a good idea to don a mask whenever you step outdoors. If a plain mask suffices you no issues, but if you are the fashionable type who would like to make a fashion statement there is something special too. Thanks to the Amsterdam based designer Diddo Velema, it would not be long before you come across a range of high protection fashion gears – gas masks.

Gas-Masks-4

At first sight you might not realize that these are masks that serve one simple purpose – protect us from harmful gases. The mere look of these creations is very stylish. The three different types ofmasks unveiled convey a different message in themselves. The brown mask has a leather finish and looks like a classic piece. There is a black one studded with white stones giving a very expensive appearance. Then there is a white mask with various parts of it carrying a metallic finish. This looks like one straight out of a science fiction movie.

Gas-Masks-7

However, there is one little problem. Try asking yourself this one question and answer it very honestly. We all are aware of the fact that the air we breathe is getting polluted every day and the level is increasing with every passing day. Yet, how many of us would have the courage to walk the streets wearing one of thesemasks ? Simple question but tough to answer! You are right, there would be very few, probably a handful. No wonder Velema had to say ‘…it is only by first acknowledging and then challenging fear that we will all be able to breathe a little easier.’

Gas-Masks-3

These masks have been designed with safety in mind. At the same time an attempt has been made to keep up the spirit of fashion. It is not necessary that every one of us has to make a fashion statement but for those eager to do so this designer mask is a perfect new accessory for times to come. Be sure to book one for yourself in advance. You never know when you may need one and may be until the time you realize it they are already out of stock. So do yourself a favor and hurry!

Gas-Masks-6

Wasn’t this amazing? Check out some other cool masks such as Bob Basset Mask and Scary Steampunk Mask.

Wii Accessories Hit A New Low With Wings For Wii

Conceptual Gadgets No Comments »

wii_wingsI haven’t played any of the new activities available in the Wii Fit Plus update, but apparently it includes a game called Bird’s-Eye Bulls-Eye where you flap your arms while standing on the balance board to guide your Mii (who’s dressed up in a chicken suit) to a series of targets to score points. I’m sure it’s occasionally a fun diversion to yoga poses, but apparently CTA Digital thinks it’s an important enough activity to warrant a set of strap-on nylon wings to “… add a sensation that you will not feel mimicking a flying chicken with your hands alone.” Unfortunately there’s no pricing info on the CTA Digital website, but anything over $1 would be a complete rip-off in my opinion.

Can Cameras Fly?

Flying_Stick_Camera_Specification
What you need to do is roll it from your palms and let it go. Flying Stick automatically takes pictures at set intervals. Pictures from above are prettier than ones from ground.

No specification about memory and resolution are finalised as this is in a concept phase. Surely the imagination includes face detection and other high end camera features.  Only time can tell how much feasible is it.

Zip Up time concept watch uses zippers to show time

Conceptual Gadgets No Comments »

Every time I go pick up my son from school, I see this oddly dressed guy walking back and forth up the sidewalks along the road. The dude has these huge pants on with about a million zippers on them. Yanko Design has the perfect watch concept for this dude. The watch has four zippers on a leather band and no watch face.

ziptime-gadgetpeek-300x273

Each of the pull tabs on the zippers shows one number to display the time. The hours are on the top two zippers and the bottom two show minutes.

The time only shows up when a button between the bottom two zippers is pressed. It’s very easy to make out the time, even if the watch sounds a bit confusing.

Five Amazing Gadgets to be Released in 2010

Conceptual Gadgets No Comments »

NTT DoCoMo has been demonstrated cellular phone which capable of transmitting data at high speed. This 4G phones, the next generation of their old 3G phones network which has 384 Kbps downloads and 129 Kbps uploads, could receive data at 100Mbps on the move and at up to a gigabit per second while static. That means you could download an entire DVD in about a minute. How cool it is! Whew! I can’t wait to have one!

Microsoft 7 to be released in 2010 also

As of now, Windows Vista is the latest Microsoft system. But do you know that there’s another system that is soon to be released. This system is called “Microsoft 7″ and there were rumors about the exact release date of this new system. This question was fueled by Bill Gates’ remarks that it would be released three years after Windows Vista. Obviously it is more hi-tech than vista.

Wow! I know this is one of the most awaited thing ever! Especially to those Computer Geeks there. You’ve been waiting for this.

Canova Dual Touch Screen Laptop In 2010

The Italian company V12 Designs has devised a new version of the ‘Canova’ which is a dual LCD laptop. It’s a two screened laptop and both were touch screens. There were few news about this one but I know you’ll enjoy this thing. So strive hard in your work if you want to have a doubled screen laptop.

New Upgraded Nintendo DS and PSP

Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest Securities says we can expect a sequel to the Wii in 2010, to be followed by a new Xbox later that year. According to the inventors that have some conjectures before now that Nintendo has a shorter life cycle in mind for its graphics-impaired Wii. There are no plans yet if there will have Sony PS4 but Wilson predicted a new Nintendo DS and PSP in 2010.

I owned an Xbox but when I heard about this thing, I want to swap my Xbox to PS4.

Hydrogen-powered phones available by 2010

French researchers have nearly succeeded in commercially developing a hydrogen fuel cell for use as a backup power source for mobile phones, thus easing dependence on an electricity supply to charge the gadgets. The product is designed to be part of a “hybrid” system in which the cell phone first draws on the conventional battery for its power and then taps into the fuel cell if needed. Each cartridge gives the equivalent of three to five recharges of the traditional battery. It is due to reach the market in early 2010, according to STMicroelectronics executive Igor Bimbaud, who declined to give its price

Acer is Developing Frameless laptop?

Conceptual Gadgets, Laptops No Comments »

frameless-laptopWhat you see here in the picture from DigiTimes is a frameless laptop from Acer.I believe that Asus and Fujitsu have been working on some similar projects. But Acer works much faster.

As what you can see this concept laptop from Acer features a touchscreen keyboard, a special screen which probably made from reinforced glass, and the different colors probably print from the back of the display screen.

I am definitely very happy if Acer can bring us the actual device at some point in the future.
